Paul Dixon Jr. on First-Place Team in Adirondack Cup

2018 Apr 20

Paul Dixon Jr. of Buffalo, NY was one of five Buffalo State students whose team took first place in the 2018 Adirondack Cup. The Buffalo State team achieved a 31.75 percent return on a hypothetical million-dollar small-cap portfolio.

The Adirondack Cup competition, sponsored by Adirondack Research & Management, is designed to provide a unique way for students to develop and test their investment research skills using businesses not widely covered by analysts and news media.

"I'm really proud of our team," said Gene Chaas, lecturer in the Economics and Finance Department at Buffalo State. "But as happy as I am about our first-place finish, it's secondary to what I see as the real success. What really matters is exposing our students to the world of investment in a way that allows them to apply what they've learned in their courses."

The Economics and Finance Department at Buffalo State embodies the college's commitment to hands-on learning. In addition to two undergraduate programs and three minors, the department offers a master's degree in applied economics.
