Thomas O-Brien on Prize-Winning Team

2017 Mar 10

Thomas O-Brien of Getzville, NY was one of eight students majoring in electrical engineering technology at Buffalo State who collaborated on a prize-winning design project proposal.

The Electric Power Research Institute reviewed 22 proposals and selected 12 to receive a $5,000 award that will go toward conference travel and equipment purchase. The proposal project, Testbed for Transactive Energy and its Effects on the Distribution System and Protective Devices Settings, will be developed using Buffalo State's state-of-the-art Smart Grid laboratory.

Ilya Grinberg, professor of engineering technology, presented his senior design class with the challenge to complete a project that analyzes electric power systems or develops new energy systems. "I am very proud of these students," he said. "They are a true dream team."
