Several Buffalo State College students were named to the "Outstanding Service-Learning Student Team" by Civic and Community Engagement in May. The students were recognized for their short-form documentary made in partnership with the Burchfield Penney Art Center's online artist archive in COM 433: Advanced Documentary Production, taught by Meg Knowles, Associate Professor of Communication.

Buffalo State College junior Iaya Mohamed is among 173 students who have been named a 2022-2023 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact, a national nonprofit organization that works to advance higher education's public purposes. The 2022 cohort comprises students from 38 states; Washington, D.C.; and Mexico.

Buffalo State Polar Plungers Win Best College Team Award

Twenty-three Buffalo State students and their friends braved frigid temperatures on Saturday, December 7, 2019, to plunge into Lake Erie to raise money for the Special Olympics. The Buffalo State Orange Crushers exceeded their goal by raising more than $3,700 in donations at the 2019 Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Woodlawn Beach and were recognized with the Best College Team Award. The Buffalo State Orange Crushers Team is co-sponsored by Buffalo State Best Buddies and the Student Council for Exceptional Children. They were supported by the Exceptional Education Department and United Students Government. Thank you to all who donated or participated.

Buffalo State Recognizes Volunteer and Service Work

The Volunteer and Service-Learning Center (VSLC) at Buffalo State recognized campus volunteers who have planted city gardens, served in soup kitchens, tutored children, and performed many other volunteer and service acts. The VSLC held its annual Celebration of Service Ceremony on May 5, and students were recognized for their work in service-learning courses and as volunteers. Last year, Buffalo State performed almost 481,000 hours of service.
