Buffalo State College's Mock Trial Team competed successfully in the SUNY Geneseo Invitational Tournament on November 20 and 21. The team's nine students, who assumed the roles of attorneys and witnesses, triumphed in their final two trials with overall wins against Syracuse University and the Rochester Institute of Technology. Mock trial is an intercollegiate competition in which student-witnesses and student-attorneys prepare fictional court cases for a simulated trial.

Two Buffalo State College students won awards during the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) 2020 Great Lakes Regional Tournament held at Buffalo State on February 8 and 9. This marked the 10th consecutive year that Buffalo State hosted the competition.

Buffalo State students took first place in this year's Adirondack Cup, a stock-picking contest for college students sponsored by Adirondack Research & Management. The Buffalo State team achieved a 31.75 percent return on a hypothetical million-dollar small-cap portfolio.

Four Buffalo State students in the Economics and Finance Department earned a return of 15.18 percent on a (hypothetical) million-dollar investment portfolio, outperforming the benchmark Russell 2000 Index in this year's Adirondack Cup competition.

Buffalo State hosted the American Mock Trial Association's 2017 Great Lakes Regional Tournament in February. Buffalo State students joined teams from 13 other universities to participate in the two-day event, which Buffalo State has been hosting since 2011.

A team of three students in Buffalo State's economics program earned a return of 6.41 percent on a hypothetical investment of $1 million. The team placed third in a field of 21 colleges and universities taking part in the Adirondack Cup challenge, sponsored by Adirondack Funds. The Russell 2000 Index, a small-cap stock market index that is the benchmark for the competition, declined by minus 5.09 percent over the same time period.
